What is this piece made from?
Every ZEITWORKS piece is made from the original interior of a specific vintage car, or from authorised reproductions of period factory textiles. Each piece is cut and assembled by hand in our studio in Snow Road Station, Ontario.
Is each piece unique?
Heritage pieces are one-of-one — built from the original interior of a single car. When that material is finished, no second piece exists. Signature pieces are made in small batches from authorised reproductions of factory textiles.
Can the piece be repaired or restored?
Yes. We have worked with leather and automotive textiles for nearly twenty years and can advise on care, repair, and restoration. Write to info@zeitworks.ca.
How does shipping and returns work?
Orders are processed within 72 hours and shipped from our Ontario studio. Returns are accepted within 72 hours of receipt, in original condition. Sale items and custom pieces are final sale.
The Car Behind This Bag

The Chevette was General Motors' panicked response to the 1973 oil crisis. Built on GM's global T-body platform — shared with the Vauxhall Chevette, Opel Kadett, and Holden Gemini — it launched in late 1975 and became, almost immediately, the best-selling small car in the United States. The 1.6-litre inline-four produced 60 horsepower in 1977 trim. The car was rear-wheel drive at a moment when every European competitor had moved to front-wheel drive, and it was, by most reasonable measures, already obsolete on its release.
It was nonetheless the car that taught a generation of Americans how to drive. Driver-education programs across the country bought Chevettes in fleet numbers because they were cheap, simple, and almost impossible to break in any way that would interfere with a 16-year-old's first parallel parking lesson. The car appeared briefly in the original Vacation (1983) before being traded for the Wagon Queen Family Truckster. By the late 1980s it had become the official vehicle of the unenthusiastic commuter.
Chevrolet built the Chevette through 1987 — twelve years on a platform conceived in the early 1970s. Total production passed 2.8 million, making it one of the highest-volume small cars Detroit ever produced. The original interiors, in their textured vinyl and ribbed cloth, are now a quietly recognized period statement of late-1970s American transportation pragmatism.
