What is this piece made from?
Every ZEITWORKS piece is made from the original interior of a specific vintage car, or from authorised reproductions of period factory textiles. Each piece is cut and assembled by hand in our studio in Snow Road Station, Ontario.
Is each piece unique?
Heritage pieces are one-of-one — built from the original interior of a single car. When that material is finished, no second piece exists. Signature pieces are made in small batches from authorised reproductions of factory textiles.
Can the piece be repaired or restored?
Yes. We have worked with leather and automotive textiles for nearly twenty years and can advise on care, repair, and restoration. Write to info@zeitworks.ca.
How does shipping and returns work?
Orders are processed within 72 hours and shipped from our Ontario studio. Returns are accepted within 72 hours of receipt, in original condition. Sale items and custom pieces are final sale.
The Car Behind This Bag

1962 was the year the Beetle stopped being a German car and started being a global one. Volkswagen built nearly a million Type 1s that year, the line at Wolfsburg running three shifts to keep up with North American demand. Mechanically the car was already old — the 1.2-litre air-cooled flat-four traced its design back to 1938 — but Heinrich Nordhoff's policy of constant evolution rather than redesign kept it current. 1962 added a powered windscreen washer, fed pressure from the spare tyre.
The cultural moment was just beginning. The Beetle would carry Doyle Dane Bernbach's "Think Small" advertising campaign — already running since 1959 — into a generation of American suburbs that had until then bought only domestic. By 1965 it would be the default counterculture car. By 1968 Disney would put one on screen as Herbie. By the early 1970s it had outsold the Ford Model T to become the most-produced single car design in history.
Total Type 1 production reached 21.5 million before the last Mexican Beetle rolled off the line in 2003. A 1962 example sits roughly in the middle of that run — old enough to be properly hand-finished, late enough to have the small refinements that made the car genuinely usable as daily transport.
